'Ereiniog' is a cottage of historic significance situated in the extraordinarily beautiful and wild valley of Cwmystradllyn to the southwest of Snowdon. The owners, Gwenda and Edward Griffith, farm the local area and have spent much of the last three years totally renovating the cottage and restoring it to its original splendour creating one of the most beautiful and interesting buildings in the area. An abundance of original beams have been uncovered, some dating back to the 16th century and deeply inscribed with rose motifs thought to have been taken from ship wrecks in the nearby Porthmadog harbour, as well as huge inglenook fireplaces throughout.

the accommodation

The cottage has been sympathetically split into two units but can be instantly returned to a single dwelling for larger families if required. Each unit comprises of a large and luxuriously equipped kitchen (including washing machine, dishwasher, large cooker, fridge, etc), dining/living areas, two bedrooms (one double and one twin), superbly appointed bathroom with shower and central heating. Outside there is ample parking and discrete areas in which to relax or eat on those balmy summer evenings.

the area

The valley of Cwmystradllyn is renowned for its remoteness and natural beauty and is situated just to the north of Tremadoc and Porthmadog. From the cottage there are numerous walks over the Mynydd Gorllwyn mountains to the east where you can view the entire estuary and Harlech castle beyond and, a little to the north, Llyn Cwmystradllyn and the vast glacial valley.  At Porthmadog you will find an abundance of shops from small craft outlets to the larger supermarkets like the Co-op and Tesco. There is also a mainline railway station and a narrow gauge train that will take you through the breathtaking Vale of Ffestiniog to the slate-mining centre of Blaenau Ffestiniog and, in the other direction, eventually to the north coast at Caernarfon. The nearby coastline is peppered with fascinating and sheltered small inlets as well as the broad stretches of golden sands towards Harlech in the south and Criccieth to the north. The entire area is steeped with history and interesting things to do and see, superb restaurants, and a people who have not forgotten the art of conversation and the meaning of friendship.
